‘Homeschool at Sea’ Week 5: “Shells, Siphons, and Tentacles oh my!”
Looking for interactive classes to add to your homeschool curriculum this year? Join Sanibel Sea School for an immersive program that brings marine science to life for homeschoolers!
The Homeschool at Sea program offers an experiential, hands-on approach to learning about Southwest Florida’s coastal ecosystems. Homeschool sessions include a mix of classroom activities, field excursions, experiments, and art projects. For each age group, both morning and afternoon options are available. Courses run from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM or 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Students can sign up for a morning session, an afternoon session, or stay for the whole day. Each week, we offer a unique area of focus. Our talented marine science educators tailor our core curriculum to the week’s focus, so each session is unique, even on the same day. You can find more information on each week 1’s focus below.
Focus of the Week: Mollusks
Description: Over 85,000 different known species of these soft-bodied creatures can be found all over our planet! Some shelled and some shell-less. This week is all about mollusks—an incredibly diverse group of invertebrates. Each day will highlight a different type of local mollusk, from the filter-feeding abilities of bivalves like clams and oysters to the complex behaviors of cephalopods. Students will examine anatomy, movement, feeding strategies, and adaptations, learning how mollusks have evolved to thrive in almost any environment.
